My providers are mainly based in Spain so probably the names won't tell you anything. I usually have -almost- perfect T38 results against Cisco and Huawei hardware (provider gateway), and avoiding providers with SONUS, NEC and ex-NORTEL products (CS2K). The most important would probably have a quality Internet connection, if using lower speed ADSL you should probably not share the limited bandwidth/upload with other uses unless you know how to properly configure traffic shaping (we use linux routers + HFSC and it works very well!). Some people just use low-cost hosting such as OVH and online.net with very good results as well.<BR>

Thanks for the information. Would you be willing to share more information? Like the SIP providers you're using, type of internet connection, hardware, etc? I would understand if you can't share everything. But seeing that you seem to be having excellent success I would be very interested to know your setup in more detail - might give me some ideas on things to implement or improve.

I do like the combo of FreeSWITCH/SpanDSP + Scripts. I've really liked the lua scripting integration that lets me add console commands and stats info right into the fs_cli tool. So, very encouraging news.

After extensive testing using decent SIP providers (with or without T38), we have much better success with spandsp than hylafax. We even have a better success rate compared to most combinations of ATA + physical fax machine we tested!!<BR>

No tweaks needed, and using default values (use-ecm=true, disable-v17=false).<BR>
<BR>
Feature-wise it's not really comparable to a Hylafax solution, but with a few scripts to manage queues and such, you can build a very nice solution able to handle a huge fax volume!<BR>

I had some success with disabling T.38 for received calls. If i see that negotiation failed multiple times or the fax aborts with errors during page transmission, I save the callerid and disable T.38 when the caller retries. Most cases that were not successful with T.38 worked fine with soft modem.
