Re: [Freeswitch-users] How the IAX2 is supported in freeswitch?

IAX2 doesn’t really offer that much lower bandwidth then SIP... Adjusting the ptime on calls can achieve the same effect as enabling IAX2 trunking.
example:

G711 PCMU or PCMA at 20ms ptime is about 80kbps,

Move to G729 and this drops to 24kbps, about a 70% savings in bandwidth, now add a 60ms ptime to this, and the bandwidth requirement drops to 13.3kbps nearly an over all 84% savings in bandwidth...

So the who IAX argument is killed at that point

I need to reduce the bandwidth of media stream, and RTP is too heavy for us.
IAX can carry more data in one packet, but the protocol is not supported as well as SIP in FS.

I just want to know that is there anyone used IAX in freeswitch ?
And is it worth a try?

Thanks.
