I would hardly call directing users to a stable distro "quite short sighted" considering we run on mac windows bsd solaris and most any linux, I fail to see any short sightedness.

In fact we have a guy who maintains ubuntu packages and another on arch. In fact I just got a new bleeding arch box and got very good results. The latest fs works well on both old and new distros. I would venture to say that perhaps you are the short sighted individual, reading too specifically into one aspect of our development. I will continue to recommend centos to new users until they gain experience and have the skill to use the distro or os they want.
