There is a very long explanation as to the differences behind asterisk AMI and FreeSWITCH Event Socket that I will not get into now<br>but it's not related to APR or TCP socket performance whatsoever it's more about asynchronous versus monolithic modeling.<br>

apr is used primarily for portability and utility, not performance.<br>
It is used heavily throughout the entire codebase in the core and all<br>
modules (via our abstraction layer).<br>
