Freenode uses an account (identification) server to prevent spamming and abuse.<br>Channel operators can specify that you have to be registered with the account server (/msg nickserv help) to be able to join a channel.<br>

Me too. I keep getting "you need to be identified to join that<br>channel". Until now, I thought it was an issue on my end and I have<br>spent probably 3 hours going through firewalls, routers, rebooting,<br>upgrades, etc to try to get it to work.
