I would like to get the FAQ back.

A FAQ is an excellent way of knowing what are missing.
Let users add questions to it, and then use that as a base to improve the documentation. I agree with that a FAQ should not be needed if the documentation is good, but since it's not complete, a FAQ is nice to information about what is missing.

Also encourage people to use the "Talk" link on each page if they find something confusing or not documented properly.

Maybe add a new page called "Documentation requests" where user ask for some parts to be better documented.

Last but not least, instruct users on the firstpage of the wiki how they can give documentation feedback (via any of the above options).

On 9/19/07,

The important message from this thread is our apparent lack of documentation. Many of our more complex features are undocumented but one of the main reasons that is the case is that unless we have people volunteering to use the features and help others with them we will be instantly overwhelmed with people who want to use the feature and have little or no interest in contributing anything back to the project. It will be inevitable that we will have users of FreeSWITCH who give little back but I am not in a big hurry to invite this type of user while we are still in beta. Our lack of documentation does add up to over 500 pages mind you so I would possibly suggest that we have a lack of a proper table of contents more than a lack of documentation.

So what I would like to do at
this time is call on everyone out there on this mailing list to form a collaborative wiki page and to reply to this thread documenting what is missing from the documentation and what you would exactly like to see to be satisfied with the documentation. Also if you could list every feature you know FreeSWITCH can do (I only tell a handful of people about certain features so once everyone writes them down you may be shocked).
