[Freeswitch-users] Directory to recompile FreeSwitch?

I need to recompile FS to support mod_shout, I've already enabled it in the
configuration file /etc/freeswitch/autoload_configs/modules.conf.xml

Every time I try to run "make mod_shout-install" or "./configure && make
install" nothing happens, I get "bash: make: command not found".

My guess is I'm trying from the wrong directory (I've tried a lot of them
already), which directory do I need to be in to recompile and enable this
module?
