Hi all.

So far I have approached Freeswitch as an end user. I am rather committed to Windows personally. Although my first experience as a young programmer in the late 1970s was on Unix, nowadays whenever I dabble in the Linux world, I find myself overwhelmed by an array of distributions and dependencies with lots of strange, even silly, invented names that just don't make a lot of sense. And wherever I would turn for information, I would only get half the story. I've never been able to get very far without something not working as I think it should, and then I've just decided that it is not worth my time trying to figure out what to do. I might often curse Windows, but at least I have been able to live with it and get on with other things. And actually I find myself cursing Windows much less nowadays, at least since Windows 7 and now 10.

I chose Freeswitch for VOIP several years ago because it just came as an executable, and I could install and get it running in just a few minutes. Furthermore it was a native Windows application. I chose Freeswitch over Asterisk because even though Asterisk could run on Windows, it required a Unix-like environment to make it work and that did not appeal.

Nowadays I tend to program mostly in Python. I have several IVR systems that use Freeswitch running on Windows, where the scripting is in Python using the sockets interface. Twenty years ago, my work on IVR systems was centred on Dialogic telephony cards and an interesting though rather basic programming language called VOS that later became CT ADE. Those systems also ran on Windows, and MS-DOS before that.

It does create a strategic risk for me being dependent on Freeswitch and Windows if the Windows executable is over a year out of date. Problem is, I am not really a C++ programmer. I will look into building the source on Windows for myself and if I can get that to work to my satisfaction then I would be willing to look at how I could contribute that back to the Freeswitch community. But given other current commitments, I expect that will be maybe six months away.

Cheers.

Windows is not built per release or on any other routine basis... it is build occationaly as needed... there are some things that need to be worked out in the Windows Packaging to make this happen... If you have the skills to work these things out patches are welcome, if this is something you may wish to sponsor drop an email to consulting at freeswitch.org and let us know.
There is limited time and resources so many platforms are community supported.

So are you saying they are not actually built each week after all?

release of Freeswitch for built for Windows. I went to http://freeswitch.org and chose the download link. This reveals an page about installation which was last updated on 13 June this year so so far so good. It says the current production version is 1.6.

Windows, including pre-compiled installers.

FreeSWITCH-1.7.0-0a024c4ecb-64bit.msi. I presume this is version 1.7 so is not the production release I am looking for.

January. I installed it anyway but it turns out to be version 1.5.15 so isn't the production version.
