#2 -- yes, there still is. For example, if you're planning a big deployment
in a protected environment, and the servers do not have a direct Internet
connection. Also some parts of the world are quite far from your servers,
and the round-trip delay affects the speed of installation process.
Of course one could build their own debs, but why reinventing the wheel.
