also, in mod_local_stream, you can point to a playlist file, and then update the playlist without reconfiguring FreeSWITCH.

but I think it's still easier to make a streaming server and send looped user files from there

This sounds even more complicated work around since users can upload their custom MOH wave files.

I was wondering if there is a proper way to do this. I do have alternative workarounds such as playing the same file a number of times in a file string or having the playback in a while loop.

Putting a leg of a call on hold with MOH sounds a simple and straightforward requirement. There should be a way.
