Also, the reason for so many packages is that you don't nessecarily need all
the packages for a production system, reducing the ammount of installed
modules can reduce attack footprint, reduces in memory and install foot
print for small machines (read embedded like raspberry pi, not everyone has

Theres a lot of other things in there also... People complaing about
building the centos RPMs for the same reason, they try to just run the some
command that's used to build ${random} RPM and wonder why it doesn't work...

You have to keep in mind that we arent just building packages for 1 version
of any package system we're building version for multiple platforms and
multiple versions of those platforms, and then multiple variants...

Example for centos we build for centos 5 and 6, then we build 32 and 64 bit
versions there

For debian we build for Squeeze thru Sid and then build 32 and 64 bit
versions there, just those 2 platforms alone account for something like a
dozen different builds of the same things...
