Yes, the VLC lib is missing on your platform. You should let us know what linux distribution you use.

The author of mod_vlc using debian and I had successfully make it work on Mac and Ubuntu. I forgot the detail but something like this on Ubuntu:

apt-cache search vlc

apt-get install vlc
apt-get install libvlc…….
