You only have to have a conference profile preconfigured. Other than that you can do basically what you have outlined below, except with uuid_transfer:

bgapi uuid_transfer <uuid> conference:confName at default inline

Try it out and remember that the standard disclaimer applies, so tinker a bit before reporting back that it doesn't work. ;)
