i've got it compiling without major problems on WinXP with VisualStudio 
Express 2008 yesterday.

only thing to obey was the "autocrlf" thing that screwed up compilation 
of sofia. I checked before the first checkout, the check was not set in 
the TortoiseGui but after the checkout it was set. Deleted the source, 
removed the "autocrlf" check , "git clone" and then all was ok.
