I think that client type is terminology specific to VoipSwitch.

Debug-level log file output from FS for the client when it fails to register
would be useful, and your config files.

Can you grab the sip packet trace for registering to voipswitch as each
client type, and registering to FS? We might then be able to compare the
behaviour and spot why it's not working.
