[Freeswitch-users] system functions silently ignored

What could cause this? I have a fax script which just stopped working.
I see the logs display the complete diaplan which involves the system
call, I can manually execute the very command from the cli, but during
the call, it just skips the system application and hangups without printing
anything in the logs?

I even tried something simple like:
<action application="system" data="touch /tmp/rxfax"/>
