This is the primary reason that most OSS guys hate G729 - it's patent
encumbered BIG TIME. Check out this article on the main FS site:

look at the patent claims on G729. G729A is even worse. Add to that the fact
that the voice quality is poor and you have a recipe for a codec that
telecom geeks don't really care for all that much.
