Colloquy is bad about making it looked like you joined a channel that is +r
even if you really didn¹t join...

Make sure you either register and identify to nickserv before you join the
channel or you can try using your nickserv password as the server password
(sometimes this works w/ colloquy)

Colloquy had some other issues that really ticked me off regularly so I
switched to using xchat aqua most of the time which you can get from sf.net

I have been using Colloquy on OSX and I started having problems a few days
ago also.  So far, I have been unable to join no matter what I have tried.
