Is it possible to fire thousands of calls this way?

Currently I am by using "originate" but I've briefly experimented with
"bgapi originate" which allows for asynchronous communications on the
event socket. I haven't yet written my call control app so for now I am
just using a perl script that sends an originate, waits one second, then
repeats. I fully intend to build a real call control system one of these
days.
