Is there work needing doing to make it an option to compile with a system gsm lib the way it currently defaults to system libcurl? I appreciate that having the library in the tree eases portability. But the version of libgsm you have, includes optimized assembler code. Does it have fallback alternatives in pure C for those CPU architectures that are not Intel?
Ditto for libcurl.
